At the T-junction of Piepersveldweg and Veldhuisweg in Borne there is a special building with a water basin. This is the old Spanjaard pumping station, which pumped water from the Deurningerbeek during the textile period and transported it via a pipe system to Spanjaard's textile factory. Here it was used, among other things, for washing and bleaching linen. It is a municipal monument and an important industrial heritage in the municipality of Borne. At the time it was popularly called 'The Water Machine'.
Until 1967, many Borneans earned their living in Spanjaard's textile factories. We want to keep this history alive. The Spanjaardgemaal, built in 1916, is the only tool/building that still reminds of the rich textile history of Borne. The monument of the factory whistle is placed on the corner of Stationsstraat/Parallelweg. The flute itself has been loaned to the Bussemakerhuis in Borne. Source: spanjaardgemaal.nl
