I would like to start with the windmill in Badersleben. The community is located northwest of Huy, in the northern Harz foothills. The post mill with louvre blades is located southwest of the town near the Bosseberg. This mill was in operation until 1965 and then shut down.
In 1988/89, the local heritage association took the initiative and made the post mill operational again. With a lot of love and even more craftsmanship and technical skill, the entire mill equipment was restored: grinding gear, grist mill, roller mill, sifting machine, cleaning system, peeling machine, elevator, everything is functional and in perfect condition. The 14 HP Deutz diesel engine, which was installed in 1931 so that the mill could also operate when there was no wind, is still doing its job. The beechwood gearbox with its mighty wooden gears is also impressive.
The entire windmill can be visited, although prior registration by telephone is recommended (Tel.: 039422-95713). And anyone who wants to can even spend their vacation there, because the association provides overnight accommodation and recreational rooms on request.
