In 1475, the "Zum Krug" wine bar was located on the site of the current building at Marktstrasse 2, around 1577 the Kruglederer brewery, and from 1750 a tannery. In 1816, the later member of parliament and historian Johann Nepomuk Sepp was born in the house as the son of a dyer. From 1869, Sepp's sister Anna Barbara Merz, the wealthy widow of an optician from Tölz, had the Kruglederer house and five adjoining buildings converted into a retirement home, which was opened as the Mariä Opferung Foundation on July 1, 1892. In 1905, a comprehensive renovation was carried out according to plans by Gabriel von Seidl, during which the previously flat sheet metal roof was replaced by a hipped roof. Carl Wahler also painted the facade richly with frescoes, including those dedicated to the memory of the Sendlinger Christmas Murders and the blacksmith from Kochel:
