Located in the State of Rio de Janeiro, with beautiful beaches, lagoons, waterfalls and mountains, the city is known internationally as the “National Capital of Surfing”. Also home to the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), the ''home of Brazilian volleyball'', naturally beautiful, also embraces other sports such as stand up paddleboarding, fishing, rowing, Hawaiian canoeing, kitesurfing, paramotoring, skimboarding, beach tennis , between others. It stands out religiously in Brazil due to the history of its patron saint, Our Lady of Nazareth, who annually holds the oldest Candle of Nazareth in Brazil. Tamoios Indians, for centuries dominated the coastal part where today the seat of the municipality of Saquarema is located and nicknamed the lagoon “SOCÓ-REMA”, which means flocks of socós (a wading bird abundant in the lagoon at that time) and with the evolution of language, it came to be called SAQUAREMA.
