Homberg has been a district of Ratingen in the Mettmann district since 1975. The image of Homberg is dominated by the towers of the two churches located on Dorfstrasse, which are popularly known as meadow noses because they protrude from the fields like noses when viewed from the surrounding hills. The historic core of the village is the Catholic church of St. Jacobus the Elder on Dorfstrasse, a Romanesque basilica from the 12th century, which contains sculptures by the Düsseldorf artist Bert Gerresheim. Above the altar hangs a reproduction of the Werden bronze crucifix from around 1060. In front of the west tower of St. Jacobus, Dorfstrasse widens into a smaller square with a few picturesque houses, including the half-timbered house In der Meuse (Jacobusgasse 3), which has been documented since the 16th century. In the part of Dorfstrasse below this square, the village character of the village is still clearly recognizable today.
