This old historical restaurant with the well-preserved half-timbering is unfortunately no longer used as a gastronomic facility. There are apartments and office buildings in it.

The "Rothe Ochse" was created in 1738 and was an old pub with a break. Later it was converted into a quarters for travelers, because with the construction of the Saxon post station and after the relocation of almost all traffic between Leipzig and Dresden via Wermsdorf, a restaurant and accommodation facility in the immediate vicinity of the post station became necessary.

So the travelers found "good and quick hospitality from Mr. Postmaster Michael Buschen". But with increasing traffic, the rooms in the post office were no longer sufficient. For example, the butcher at Hubertusburg, Gottlieb Rupert, who had bought the property in 1738, acquired the "guest, relaxation and lodging rights" for his estate and gave the inn the name it carried to the end. From 1773 until shortly before the First World War, the Würgau family owned the "Rothen Ochsen". At the end of the last century the framework was plastered over, but happily exposed again in the 1950s.

According to tradition, the French Emperor Napoleon is said to have stopped for a break when he passed through to Leipzig in 1813. That was on a board on the pillar in the guest room. This event cannot be verified, but it is not unlikely.
