The Swirling Lake (or Lake Nucșoara) is a karst lake formed on gypsum, which is found in the commune of Nucșoara and is included in the area of the Măgura - Nucșoara nature reserve.
Located at an altitude of 780 m, it is geographically located in the region of the subcarpathian mountains of Argeș.
With an area of approx. 2.22 ha[5] and a maximum depth of 5 meters, the body of water was formed at the end of the 19th century on a sinkhole.[6]. After it was formed by dissolution, it underwent processes of suffusion and then subsidence.[3]
