Piazza Meschio has ancient origins. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and underwent new expansions and transformations in the first half of the 19th century and in the 20th century, with the reconfiguration of the road system. The buildings that constitute the characteristic building curtain of the Square are: to the north, the nineteenth-century Hospital of Santa Maria del Meschio (probably designed by the architect Segusini); to the west, the former Albergo Cairoli, from the 18th-19th century; to the south a compact historical building curtain; to the east the Church of Santa Maria del Meschio.
