However, the (probably) most famous mermaid in the world is not found here across the English Channel in the United Kingdom, but in the capital of Denmark. In Copenhagen, a statue of a mermaid was erected near the harbor in honor of the Danish poet and storyteller Hans Christian Andersen (1805 to 1875), and has stood there for more than 110 years.
