The fish market fountain in the middle of the market square, which was rediscovered and rebuilt during the redesign of the square, is now decorated with a fountain figure, an undine, created by the Mainz artist Karlheinz Oswald.
The figure of Undine comes from the legend of the Upper Rhine knightly family of Staufenberg. The material is contained in a poem from around 1320 and has been adapted many times.

Oswald is a local artist who has since moved to Switzerland. He has created several works, including in Mainz.
