The geothermal area around Sol de Mañana extends over ten square kilometers and is between 4800 and 5000m high. Due to the high volcanic activity, there are sulfur springs, bubbling mud pots and holes from which steam is blown up to 50m into the air.
Energy is generated from the steam in a nearby power plant.

El Sol de Mañana is a desert area of about 2 km² in southern Bolivia in the department of Potosí, south of Laguna Colorada on the way to Salar de Chalviri, at an altitude of 4850 m above sea level, within the Eduardo Abaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve.
