Excursion to the wine cellars Rajacke Pivnice near Rajac:
Bojan, my innkeeper recommends the wine cellars and offers me to drive there by car (25 km) and then visit a friend nearby, all for 6 € fuel. I can not refuse the offer.
Wine was grown near Negotin in Roman times.
At that time, the conditions for viticulture were very good, and it was one of the most important sources of income for the population in this region. According to current estimates, there are about 1,000 hectares of vineyards on vine-growing hills in the Negotin area.
The cellars are about 150 cellars in which the winegrowers lived during the harvest with their families and helpers. Today about 10% of it is managed as a guest house. Tourists are taken there by bus and in one of the cellars is eaten and tasted wine and schnapps. The vast majority of houses unfortunately expire.
There is no financially strong investor who rebuilds the whole village and the buildings and markets them as a tourist attraction. The wooded hills and vineyards are very charming, absolutely quiet and invite you to go hiking. Of historical importance is also located directly on the village edge cemetery.
