StadtArt Holzgerlingen - owls and ravens
The town of Holzgerlingen celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 2007. The "StadtArt" was launched as a public campaign. Oversized large sculptures approx. 2 m high of the city's heraldic animals - owl and raven - were cast from synthetic resin. The owls and ravens were designed by EDGAR HAYDL, who had already made the models for the bronze casting of the Holzgerlingen heraldic animals at the roundabout (can be seen with the found owls).
Many local companies (companies, retailers, craftsmen, banks and service providers) as well as citizens made the inner-city attraction in Holzgerlingen possible by sponsoring the animal sculptures, which were sold at cost price.
The figures were painted and designed by creative people. Artists and designers from the region, senior citizens, students, school classes and kindergartens transformed the owls and ravens into diverse works of art. Each animal sculpture is provided with a plaque engraved with the name of the art object, the artist and the godfather.
On April 28, 2007, the large sculptures, 50 owls and 36 ravens (which were "grown" during the festival year), were presented to the public in a large bird parade in a ceremony on the town hall square. Even beyond the anniversary year, the owls will remain in the city.
