Good and not too rough asphalt (2024) with occasional damage from drops. It turned out to be a really nasty bitch during my climb, as the pass is very steep in the upper section and there are cold gusts of 9 Bft. Coming from the north, it's no longer fun. It became an extraordinary mental training that I have never had before on a mountain in this form. The weather forecasts (Apple, Google, Meteoblue) were not reliable, only predicted gusts of up to 40km/h, ultimately it was said to have been up to 80km/h mimmimi. If time permits, it is better to postpone the tour when the wind is forecast ;)
The altitude information for the pass varies greatly. The official sign says 2,645m (that doesn't exist anywhere else on a pass in Morocco), but according to the contour lines from Komoot and Google Maps it should be around 2,670m, according to the Komoot Tour it was 2,680m.
The pass is asphalted throughout. Personally, I liked Tizi n' Ouano, just a few kilometers to the west, even better in terms of the landscape. The ascent/descent of this pass is crowned by the Todra Gorge. I strongly recommend driving both or taking a round trip.
