There used to be a water mill here - the Wandse falls down a step here where there used to be a mill wheel.

Since the first documented mention in 1336, there has been a water mill on the site of today's Eichtalpark, which was used as a tanning mill for a leather factory. It was used to grind tan, i.e. bark, wood and leaves from trees. Today the restaurant "Zum Eichtalpark" is located on this site. The current building was built in 1888 after the previous building burned down and was converted into a restaurant in 1928, although the water wheel was not removed until two years later.

For many centuries, the Eichtalmühle on the often flooded river bank - like the other five Wandse mills in Wandsbek - served various commercial purposes, sometimes as a grain mill, sometimes as a powder mill. As the earliest power machines, wind and water mills are the basis for Wandsbek's rise as a commercial location.
