The Martin H. Burns Wildlife Management Area (WMA) spans over 2,135 acres in northeastern Massachusetts and was established in 1959. This WMA features pine forests, rocky terrain, wetlands, and varied habitats that support many different wildlife species. You can enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing on the unimproved roads and trails. Unlike a lot of parks and nature preserves, exploring beyond marked paths is encouraged. However, hunting for deer, and woodcock is popular in fall, with controlled pheasant hunts on designated days, so be sure to wear orange during hunting seasons ensure a safe experience, especially if going off trail!
