The peat ship 'Tullum' lies on BoDo's Wieke. It was named after the nickname of the East Frisian entrepreneur Rolf Traunicht because he sponsored the museum.

With the Fehn canals, a distinction is made between the main canal and the side canals branching off from it, which are called Wieken, Inwieken and Hinterwieken. Bodo is the abbreviation for the company Bohlen & Doyen in Wiesmoor, with whose help the Wieke was created, hence BoDo's Wieke.

The cut peat was transported via the canals to the nearby towns of Emden and Wilhelmshaven using small ships, the so-called flat-bottomed ships. For the return journey, different materials were loaded, for example for the blacksmith shop in the village or silt from the mouth of the Ems to improve the soil in agriculture.
Since the settlers on the Fehnen had a meager livelihood, they looked for secondary employment in, among other things, shipping.
