Pura Ulun Danu Batur was built in 1926. It is dedicated to the goddess of lakes and rivers, Dewi Danu. The people of Batur rebuilt their village and the temple at the highest point on the edge of the caldera.
The temple complex consists of nine different smaller temples with the main temple Pura Penataran Agung Batur. There are nearly 300 shrines dedicated to the gods and goddesses of water sources, water, crafts, art and agriculture, the foundation of Bali's society and culture.
