In the mid-seventies, the Land Survey Office in Munich carried out an expansion of the trigonometric fixed point network. This had become necessary because of the various changes such as land consolidation, motorway expansion and road construction. In 1979 the Land Surveying Office determined the geographical center, so to speak, as the focal point of the area of Bavaria in the immediate vicinity of Kipfenberg Castle.

In 1980 the boulder was set up as a landmark and the geographical center was inaugurated in a ceremony. The famous TV presenter Carolin Reiber hosted the festival program.

The entrance area of the geographical center was later redesigned in a modern way (gabion gate).

In October 2016, the place was converted into an open meeting place with seating and information board.

At this point, the focus of the area of Bavaria, so the geographical center.
Say, if you would cut all around Bavaria at the borders and here at this point an axle durchsteckt, then Bayern would be perfectly balanced as a wheel, so freely rotating in the air. The running characteristics would still be quite bumpy. It's not really round. Especially the corner near Aschaffenburg disturbs the turn.
The place itself is relatively unspectacular. But you can not choose it.
A boulder as a marker, an information board and a few flags.

A table with benches is available but there was a lot going on with us and there was always a car or motorcycle coming to park. There are nicer places to rest
