Alcácer do Sal is a beautiful city on the banks of the Sado River. 100 years ago, no one from outside wanted to live here because the rice fields that surrounded it allowed the proliferation of mosquitoes that spread Malaria (here called "Sea Fever"). The first experiment of importing black slaves from the trading posts in Senegal was also carried out in this area in the 15th century.
