The port of the city of Husum is divided into two areas: the inner port and the outer port. The operators of the port facilities are ATR-Landhandel GmbH & Co KG and the Hauptgenossenschaft Nord AG.

Commercial companies from the grain and feed industry - Hauptgenossenschaft Nord AG (HaGe) and ATR-Landhandel as well as shipbuilding (Husumer Dock und Reparatur GmbH & Co. KG (HDR)) are located on the north and south banks of the outer port. The HDR is the only repair yard on the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein and is of great importance for passenger shipping by the island and Hallig shipping companies.
