Nestled in the wetlands just meters from the bustling city of Dubai is the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. It's hard to believe that you can find tens of thousands of birds in one place so close to the city.
The sprawling reserve also serves as a breeding ground for crustaceans, mammals and fish each year, but in winter it's the flamingos that steal the show. You can also spot gray herons, great egrets, reef herons, cormorants, stilts, sandpipers, ospreys and other colorful bird species.
