60 years of Savognin Bergbahnen AG
On May 25, 1962, the then Nandro, ski and chair lifts Savognin-Martegnas AG was founded. As early as the summer of 1962, three transport systems were built at record speed. Savognin's idea at the time: A mountain valley helps itself. And so in December 1962 Savognin was able to start its first winter season. For this reason, the Savognin Bergbahnen want to use the coming winter season to look back together on the milestones achieved. The official celebrations will take place as part of an anniversary day on March 18, 2023.
A special thank you goes to Leo Jeker, who has played a key role in the development of Savognin Bergbahnen AG for 60 years. Despite much initial criticism, he brought technical snowmaking to Switzerland with the construction of Europe's first large-scale snowmaking facility in 1978. Without this pioneering achievement, modern ski areas could no longer survive today. Leo Jeker was always open to new, innovative ideas. The Savognin Bergbahnen would like to thank him very much for this and for his years of self-sacrificing commitment to the mountain railway industry. At the Annual General Meeting, after an emotional review of the past 60 years, Leo Jeker did not stand for re-election as a member of the Board of Directors, thereby making room for the next generation. As a thank you for the last 60 years, the Savognin Bergbahnen is dedicating the valley run from Tigignas to Savognin to him, the first snow-covered slope in Savognin, which will be called the “Leo Jeker Piste” in the future. He will be replaced on the board of directors by Ivar Jeker, who brings with him ideal qualifications with his connection to Savognin and years of management experience.
