One of the many mine tunnels in the Hunsrück, which were driven into the rock for ore, gemstone or slate quarrying. Most are closed by bars and serve as sheltered sleeping places for bats.

The mine path

Jupp, the carved colliery worker, is reminiscent of the miners who went downhill from Morshausen 150 years ago to their daily work in the Theresia mine. They went over the Gruwepeadsche (pit path). Since the work underground was already strenuous enough, these paths were always laid out on the shortest and easiest route, avoiding unnecessary inclines. When planning the Murscher Eselsche Dream Loop, the journey was the goal. Much emphasis was placed on beautiful views and imposing rocks. Therefore, today's path is not completely identical to the historical mine path, but large parts of the path, partly unchanged, have been integrated. You hike along the upper and middle shafts, both of which are buried, until you reach the spoil pile in front of the lower shaft. This shaft was exposed in cooperation with NABU and provided with a new bat grille. There you will get an impression of the earthworks and further information on ore mining in the Theresia mine.
