The municipal harbor of Langenargen is the only harbor on the lake that has been preserved in its original form from the turn of the century. The customs house (1832) was the beginning of the construction of today's port, which was built in its current form between 1902 and 1904. The customs house and cranes have been restored and the picturesque “Gondola Harbor” ensemble offers a lovely place to stroll and enjoy. The “Lädine” also docks at the harbor and adds to the authentic charm.

So what could be more obvious than to place a "real" Dammglonker here, one of the servants who in the 19th century did the loading of the salt and grain stores on the Schiffslände, the popularly known dam? The life-size bronze figure by the Tuttlingen artist Roland Martin has been leaning comfortably against the jetty wall since September 2006 and watching the goings-on in the community harbor. “Glonken” is a type of locomotion in which the slowest gait is taken and no other parts of the body other than the legs should move. So why not take a leisurely stroll across the footbridge and meet the Langenargen original?
