Wearing grippy shoes and using hiking poles is highly recommended for the rocky section of the trail. Some inclines are steep. While anyone can hike them, I caution the beginner.
Also, if the water level is high, the eastern portion of the lake section of the trail can be muddy. In that case I recommend wearing proper boots for that and going counterclockwise around the lake to deal with that section first and not end up having to turn around at the end of a challenging clockwise tour.
