Here you will find a monument that commemorates the work of the glassblowers' women. The history behind it is interesting.

In the rooms of the desperately poor glassblowing families there was a clear division of tasks. The men sat “in front of the lamp” and blew the Christmas tree decorations at a chord tempo. The rest of the family painted and finished the delicate glassware. The glassblowers' wives carried the easily breakable goods in voluminous carrying baskets made of willow wood or special wooden frames (Raaf or Kiepe) along laborious paths from Lauscha to Sonneberg. It was part of the Lauscha townscape that women walked along the village street with their large carrying baskets.

The glassblowers' women carried the Christmas tree decorations in baskets made of willow wood the 15 kilometers to Sonneberg. The baskets usually weighed over 20 kg and the journey was very difficult, especially in the winter months.
