Mills Lake is a crystal clear alpine lake, sitting at the base of Half Mountain, and the hike there is perfect to soak up some gorgeous views and see the wildlife around RMNP. The name of the lake is in honor of Enos Mills, one of the founders of the National Park.
To get to the lake, you start from the Glacier Gorge Trail, passing by Alberta Falls and Glacier Creek. This trail is very popular, giving access to other trails and lakes, and it’s recommended to get there early to get a parking spot, especially on weekends. During winter, it is recommended to have appropriate gear for this hike, in particular micro spikes are highly recommended. For those who want a bigger challenge, Mills Lake is followed by at least six other lakes, with beautiful alpine landscapes.
