The Spanish tower of Torre Vecchia, built in the 16th century with the aim of defending the village of Marceddì from pirate incursions, is now counted among the "places of the FAI heart". The Italian Environment Fund (FAI) protects and enhances Italian heritage through campaigns such as "places of the heart", a biennial census in which the public can vote for places to preserve and enhance. Projects with at least 2,500 votes can apply to the Luoghi del Cuore call.
Recently, the tower underwent a restoration aimed at preserving it from degradation.
