Guangqi Park is built on the private graveyard of the ancient scientist Xu Guangqi (1562-1633). The tomb, sacred road and archway that from the centerpiece of the park today, have been established in 1641. The park has previously been named Nandan Park, as it is located on Nandan Road, but was renamed Guangqi Park to commemorate Xu Guangqi.
The park also contains the Xu Guangqi Memorial Hall, a couple of statues - and is just enjoyable watching people.
