St. Donatus (also called Brander Cathedral) is the parish church of the Brand district of Aachen. The parish district includes Bierstrauch, Brand, Brander Heide, England, Freund, Neuenhof and Niederforstbach.
In the fall of 1879 work began on building a new parish church. The construction time was around 4 years before the first mass could be said on October 7, 1883. The church was inaugurated on September 21, 1890. The architect of the church was Vinzenz Statz. At the same time, the new parish of the Kornelimünster Imperial Abbey took over the old Vincenz Chapel in the Niederforstbach district, which is dedicated to Vinzenz Ferrer and was intended as a place of worship to protect against earthquakes. Since then, rosary devotions and prayers for the deceased as well as baptisms and once a year on April 5th, the anniversary of St. Vincenz's death, have been held there on request.
In 1966 the choir of St. Donatus was rebuilt. In 1973 the deaneries were re-divided and the Brand and Forst parishes have formed their own deanery ever since.
On October 7, 1983, St. Donatus received a new altar.
