The villa stands on the square where Via del Santuario ends, creating a very scenic view. Built at the end of the 16th century by the architect Scamozzi, it initially consisted only of the southern building. The second wing of the villa, more imposing and in an orthogonal position compared to the late sixteenth-century one, was added in 1740 by Andrea Tirali, who died before seeing the works completed. The most recent wing also houses a series of high reliefs inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses.
The square with the stone fountain in the center is delimited on the mountain side by a staircase adorned with statues representing Dawn, Midday, Dusk and Evening, works by the Paduan sculptor Antonio Bonazza (1698-1763). The scenic staircase leads to the Exedra of S. Francesco Saverio, with the cave-niche named after the saint who stayed in the city of Monselice in 1537.
Currently the villa serves as a branch of the University of Padua.
