Monorse is located, with its neighbor Gledin, on the upper course of the Lut valley. The municipality is located at the foot of the Călimani mountains. The city's main industrial activity is milk processing. Since 1991, the Carmolact factory has processed around one hundred thousand liters of milk daily, purchased from private producers in the region and neighboring towns.
The city was hit hard both during the First World War and the Second. War memorials commemorating this period are easily found in the city.
