A challenging 21km eastward hike from Okutama station. Nothing but climbing for the first half and it’ll start with a stairway from hell. Need to be comfortable with occasional rocky terrain.
You’ll be rewarded with a great view of Mt Fuji at the top of Mt Ohtake if weather permits. Optional route (not shown on the route) to take Rock Garden path before making way to Mitake. Stop for much deserved meal or dessert before heading out to Mt Hinode.
Next you have option to take shorter path to Tsurutsuru hot spring (not shown) and take bus to JR Musashi-Itsukaiichi station. Or if you want to go further, follow route to JR Hinatawade station. Along the way, there’s a gorgeous plum park, Umeno that must not be missed during cherry blossom season. There’s plenty of restaurants back to the station but most close early so to be sure to check Google maps.
