Just 100 years ago, almost every farm in the Bergisches Land region had its own well or spring. Due to the lack of connection to the general water network, years of drought, and the simultaneous increase in water demand in Kürten-Kohlgrube, a water cooperative was formed that privately financed the construction of the Hermannsquelle water supply facility. The Hermannsquelle water supply facility was built in 1973 and is named after Hermann Breidenbach (1900-1982). With the help of a divining rod, he found the optimal location where the well and pump house stand today.

Since 1975, the small waterworks has been pumping 4 to 5 m³ of drinking water daily for 12 households. To legally pump drinking water, an official operating permit was required. Therefore, a water law permit had to be applied for from the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis on September 20, 1978. This permit was not granted until 19 years later, on September 25, 1997. During Storm Kyrill in 2002, a spruce tree fell near the pump house. The wood from the tree was used to create two sculptures to the left and right of the door, representing water fountains. According to the sign, this small private waterworks was built in 1973 during a severe water shortage. A local resident named Hermann Breidenbach discovered water veins 5 meters deep using a dowsing rod. The small waterworks was named "Hermannsquelle" after him. It still supplies 12 households in the Hermannsquelle water community today. All work on the pumping system and the pipe network was done by volunteers. A successful example of a citizens' initiative.
