After the Second World War, Brest was a dead city, crumbling under the ashes of endless bombings. Today, the capital of western Brittany has regained its dynamism. Still the leading French military port, this vocation is no longer unique. Commercial and industrial ports have developed, taking advantage of the major assets of the harbor.

The “city of Ponant” maintains an impressive cultural fabric. In the heart of the city, places like the Capuçins or the PAM or the Océanopolis are essential. The brutalist architecture linked to the rapid concrete reconstruction of the city is surprising.

If your trip allows it, go find a boat in the port to explore the harbor, or go to the islands of Sein, Molène or Ouessant. You can also explore Brittany by train: the SNCF station is served daily by trains from Nantes and Rennes (as well as Paris).
