At this point, Hofgeismar's first town hall was built between 1387 and 1390 - partly on a groin vault that was around 150 years older - and the entire cellar area of which is still preserved. It was largely demolished in the 18th century due to its dilapidation and was replaced between 1728 and 1730 by a forerunner of today's town hall on the initiative of Landgrave Karl.

The building was constructed in the austere form of Kassel Baroque, with two external staircases, a central portal, and a mansard hipped roof. It had an upper floor with living quarters, later used by garrison officers. The courtroom was located in the attic, and the prison was in the basement.
