Constructed in 1893, Idalgashinna station is thought to be the most picturesque railway station in Sri Lanka!
The station is located on a mountain col at an elevation of 1615 m (5299 ft). On a clear day there are extensive views to the north and to the south. When combined with a pleasant curved platform, mist that comes and goes, and an interesting green landscape, it is easy to appreciate the station’s scenic appeal.
For hikers there are delightful walking trails from Idalgashinna station northwest to Ohiya railway station, and eastward to Haputale railway station.
