Excerpt from the statutes of the Fühlinger See sports and recreation facility from April 27, 2021:
"Lake 5 and the green areas immediately surrounding it serve as an outdoor pool
Delimited part within the bathing times for use as an outdoor pool and adventure sports.
The remaining area of Lake 5 is used for scuba diving, stand up paddling and as an access road
for rowers and canoeists to the jetties and the regatta course."

Fühlinger See is not a single lake, but a large recreational area comprised of several interconnected artificial lakes in the north of Cologne-Fühlingen.
Gravel was extracted here starting in 1912 for railway and road construction. The deep pits filled with groundwater due to the proximity of the Rhine.
From 1967 onward, the area was recultivated and developed as a leisure and recreation area.
