Longyearbyen is a small mining town on the island of Spitsbergen in the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard. This Arctic city is known for its views of the Northern Lights. The modern Svalbard Museum tells the natural history and cultural history of the area and includes a stuffed polar bear. Occasionally live bears can be seen in the area. The North Pole Expeditions Museum reports on earlier efforts to reach the Pol by air.
