The Kostheimer bridge connects the Wiesbaden district Kostheim (Hesse) with Ginsheim-Gustavsburg (Hesse) over the Main. The Bundesstraße 43 leads over the bridge. The old original bridge with half-timbered arch supports on pillars was put into operation in 1887 and rebuilt after destruction in World War II in 1947 with a simpler superstructure in Warren-Fachwerk. The transition is the last Main bridge before the mouth in the Rhine. The Kostheimer Bridge is part of the "Three Bridge Run", the other two are the Rhine bridges Theodor Heuss Bridge and the South Bridge. Due to increasing traffic load, a new bridge construction is being considered. On the part of the State Office for the Preservation of Historic Monuments Hesse, the bridge is considered a cultural monument. Already in Roman times there was near a Main bridge. Remains of the bridge piers are nowadays only to be found at extreme low tide in the Main on Gustavsburger side, about 200 m west of today's Kostheimer bridge. They are aligned to the former river course of the Main. 🚴♂️

The Kostheimer Brücke crosses the Main between Mainz-Kostheim, which, contrary to its name, does not belong to Mainz, but to Wiesbaden and Ginsheim-Gustavsburg. It is the last opportunity to cross the Main before it flows into the Rhine. A bridge has stood here since 1887, but it was destroyed in the Second World War and then rebuilt. The road is relatively busy, but there are combined cycle and footpaths on both sides. If you cross the bridge in the direction of Ginsheim and immediately turn right, you will come to the Mainspitze, which is always worth a little detour.
