Confluence points are geographical points where integer lines of latitude and longitude intersect; at this point the equator (the zeroth parallel) intersects 30 degrees east longitude, so it has the coordinates 0.000° and 30.000° east. It is located very close to where the road to Katunguru branches off the A109 to the south. Since you cross the equator here, there is a small parking lot here. There are signs pointing to the equator (placed in the wrong place), the confluence point is not marked.
The “Degree Confluence Project” is a worldwide project that aims to visit all of these points and document them in images and text. (For example, my visit to this confluence point is documented here: confluence.org/confluence.php?visitid=23371.) This undertaking is by no means completely pointless, as it at least provides sample documentation of the nature of the entire land area of the earth's surface. It cannot be ruled out that this could even be of scientific use.
