The Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa on Mallorca was founded in 1399 by King Martin I of Aragon. The current buildings date mostly from the 18th century. After secularization in 1835, the monks were expelled and the monastic cells sold, which remain privately owned to this day. Today, the complex houses various museums.
