        The Pirolatal refers to a dune area on the North Sea island of Langeoog.

        It is named after the protected plant Pirola (pyrola rotundifolia), which has become rare after draining the Pirolatales. Instead, here is a dry Krähenbeer heath to find.

These protective dunes have been severely affected in recent storm surges, so they are the subject of current coastal protection measures. In this context, an artificial strengthening of the protective dunes was carried out in 2007 by backfill sanding combined with marram grass plantations to stabilize them in 2009. This also led to the relocation of a section of the Pirolaweg. The cost of this measure, in which 120,000 cubic meters of sand were installed, amounted to 600,000 euros in 2007 and another 760,000 euros in the following year, in which a renewed increase in the dune.

        In the years 2010 and 2013, additional storm surge protection on the lake side in front of the protective dunes was achieved by means of sand pruning in the order of 450,000 or 500,000 cubic meters.

              The Norderpad leads us south up to the viewing dune, the top of which is adorned by the former sea rescue observation station, now a colorful bunker. A broad view over the island, more oriented to the northwest than the view from the higher Melkhörndüne."
