For the first time a castle or castle in Freyenstein for the year 1332 is certified. Whether this "Raubritternest" is the origins of today's castle or the castle, remains open, as remnants of this plant could not be identified exactly yet. It is certain, however, that in 1556 Conrad von Rohr, then-master of Freyenstein, started construction of a three-wing castle complex - today called the castle - in the eastern part of the park. The executive architect was Dominicus Parr, son of a prestigious Italian builder family. Parr planned the building in the style of the Renaissance.
