Very nice site with a history:
The arrangement of the buildings, around a cobbled courtyard, is a reminder that this site was originally (in the 18th century) a gentleman's farm. In the mid-19th century it was converted into a beer brewery, which flourished in the interwar period.
In 1970, however, the Rubbens brewery had to bow its head to the competition from the large breweries. The contents were sold.

Fortunately, a number of people who wanted to preserve the dilapidated building banded together and started restoring it in 1995. Final protection followed in 1997.

The non-profit organization Oude Brouwerij van Zonnegem has since restored not only the brewery hall, but also the malt tower and chimney. In the meantime, the brewery was also used as a venue for cultural events.
As you walk through the building, you will learn something about the beer brewery in general and the history of this brewery in particular using a number of information boards.

Well worth a detour!

And... they now have a local beer again: the Zonnegemse Zot, the sale of which (per pack) should contribute to the financing of the excellent restoration.
