Fort de Dampierre is a historic fortification which is part of the defensive system of Langres. The fort is located on a plateau which overlooks the valleys of the Marne, Traire and Coudre, and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. You can explore the triangular shape of the fort, its bastions, caponiers and barracks, and learn about its history and its role in the Franco-Prussian War and the First World War. The fort is also a nature reserve for bats, and you might spot some of these nocturnal creatures during your hike.
