On the railway viaduct of Eifa, the Alsfeld - Niederaula - Bad Hersfeld railway, the so-called Gründchenbahn, crossed the meadow valley of the Eifa to the west of today's Alsfeld district. The section of this railway line between Grebenau and Alsfeld was opened on April 1, 1916.
The viaduct, built in reinforced concrete since 1913, spans the valley in eight arches over a length of 230 m. The bridge is 22 m high. Despite the concrete construction, the viaduct has striking decorative elements in the pilaster strips, the parapet and in the bay windows above the pillars.

A vault bridge 230 meters long and 30 meters high. It is a non-reinforced bridge, brick powder was added to the concrete mass in order to achieve the desired properties. Through the vault principle, the forces of the bridge were diverted, just like in church vaults of the Middle Ages. Since Germany was in the construction phase during World War I, the steel was probably needed for armaments. A second bridge at Eifa-Hardtmühle was dismantled in 1992.
