Plan Villard is an area of open, Alpine pasture above the village of Arêches. It's an enjoyable ascent to reach the plateau, climbing through the forest on beautiful, winding trails. On reaching Plan Villard, the trees thin out to reveal big views over the valley and up to the craggy summit of Grand Mont. There's even a convenient bench to take a break if you want to.

Alpine pasture above Arêches from which the climb to Mont Mirantin and the crossing of the Roche Plane start. The alp can be reached by car via a gravel road. You can park on the side of the road in front of the last two alpine buildings.
