The South Gate on Grant St at Bush St is probably the best known entrance to San Francisco's China Town, as it faces downtown. Grant is the most active street lined with tourist shops and restaurants and slow-moving one-way South-North traffic, technically ending at Broadway where Little Italy/North Beach begins, but Chinese meanwhile own most of North Beach, Telegraph hill and Russian Hill neighborhoods as well.
Parallel to Grant St is Stockton St, more actively used by Chinese themselves with dozens of Chinese-language-only shops, eateries, and groceries spilling out to the sidewalks.

San Francisco's Chinatown is probably the oldest and most tighly-knit in the country, with some of its 20'000+ residents looking back on 5 or more generations after immigration yet still without speaking English. From school to shopping to voting in local or state or national elections, their whole life can function entirely in Chinese.

Like every big city, San Francisco has special features, the moderate climate is definitely pleasant there - it usually doesn't get too cold or too hot there:)
- Fisherman's Wharf is very touristy and those who like the hustle and bustle are in good hands there
- Driving a cable car is fun and is a bit different - the technology is old and still works! (I think the Cabel Car Museum is well worth a visit!)
- the "famous" Lombard Street (de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lombard_Street) is - well (not really something special for me;)
- I think China Town is very nice, if you have never been to Asia you can get a foretaste there.
- Twin Peaks is a nice vantage point, provided San Francisco doesn't sink into the haze ...
